How to Contribute to GirlScript Summer of Code (GSSoC) for Beginners
GSSoC 2024 is LIVE! 🚀
GirlScript Summer of Code (GSSoC) is one of the largest open-source programs in India, designed to help beginners kickstart their journey in the world of open-source contributions.
In this blog, I have discussed about how to get started with GSSoC and contribute successfully as a beginner.
Register for GSSoC
Some of you may already got selected for GSSoC but if you didn’t get yourself registered here :
GSSoC - https://gssoc.girlscript.tech/registration
Hacktoberfest - https://hacktoberfest.com/auth/
Explore Projects
Once you’ve registered and the coding period starts, you’ll get access to a list of open-source projects you can contribute to. These projects span various technologies like web development, mobile development, AI, and more.
Find the GitHub Repo
Every open-source project in GSSoC is hosted on GitHub. Read through the README file and contribution guidelines to understand how the project works and what kind of contributions are needed.
Create an Issue
If you see something you'd like to work on or if you have a new idea, create an issue.📌 This is just a way of telling the project maintainers what you want to change or add.
Get Assigned
Once the project owner or mentor approves your issue, they’ll assign it to you. 🎉
Fork the Repo and Work on It
Fork (copy) the project’s repository, download it to your local machine and start working on the assigned task.
Submit a Pull Request (PR)
Once you've finished your work, submit a pull request (PR) to the original repository. If the maintainers are happy with your contribution, they'll merge your changes.
Make sure you’re getting labels like GSSoC-Ext, Winter of Blockchain, or Hacktoberfest-accepted, as well as level 1, level 2, etc.
All the best 🤗
